How important is a logo?

Is a logo important for a website?

You bet!  A logo is one of the most important aspects of your business.  Your logo may be the only thing your potential customer remembers about the visit to your website.  Think about how many times you have received a sales ad in an e-mail or just dropped in on a website from a search engine result.  What was the first thing you noticed.  In many cases you may just delete the email or  click away from the website before really looking at the content, however if the logo is prominently placed it is usually noticed.

Sometimes your logo is the only statement you’ll get to make about yourself to a potential customer. If it is, do you really want an amateur logo doing the talking? Do yourself a favor and see a professional. There a hundreds of skilled designers out there that have the ability to make your logo actually work for you. Take the time and spend the money to do it right. A good logo will go a long way in establishing your business.

How important do I think it is?  I design logos and websites for a living, however there have been times I referred a client to another logo designer simply because I felt I could not represent the business they have properly and meet the deadlines they had for the launch date of their website.  Sometimes coding the website is such a monumental project that I do not have the time to give the logo design the attention it deserves. I hate to lose the business but I would much rather have my client succeed then to fail because an important aspect of the site was overlooked.

There are some things to consider as to the role your logo plays on your website and your “brand” as a whole.

  • Does it convey credibility and trust?
  • Does it reflect the company image?
  • Does it convey your message and values?
  • Will it stand the test of time?
  • Does it speak to your target audience?

In short, logos are one of the most important aspects of your website. Do not take them for granted, put them out front and let them work for you.  Let your logo show the world who and what you are all about.
